The show was on Broadway this season

Liberation will receive a London production in 2027, with the theatre to be announced.
The play, written by Bess Wohl and directed by Whitney White, will be presented by Broadway producers Daryl Roth, Eva Price and Rachel Sussman in association with UK-based Eleanor Lloyd Productions and Eilene Davidson Productions – who are currently working on shows like the Sylvia tour and Ava Pickett’s forthcoming Bloodsport: After Helen of Troy.
Set in Ohio in the 1970s, the play follows Lizzie as she gathers a group of women to discuss changing their lives and the world around them. The story later shifts to Lizzie’s daughter, who revisits her mother’s memories and the movement she helped shape in an attempt to find answers of her own.
The announcement comes as Liberation continues its awards season run. The production recently won the 2026 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and has received five Tony Award nominations, including Best Play.
It has also won the Drama League Award for Outstanding Production of a Play, the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding New Off-Broadway Play, and Drama Desk and New York Drama Critics’ Circle awards for Best Ensemble Performance.
Wohl and White are the only female playwright and director nominated in their respective Tony Award categories this season. Liberation also received nominations for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play for Susannah Flood, Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Play for Betsy Aidem and Best Costume Design of a Play for Qween Jean.
The production first premiered at Roundabout Theatre Company Off-Broadway before transferring to Broadway, opening at the James Earl Jones Theatre on 28 October 2025. It played an extended run until 1 February 2026.
Alongside its London plans, Liberation will also receive further productions across the United States during the 2026 to 27 season, including runs at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles, Berkeley Rep in California and Studio Theatre in Washington, DC, with additional productions to be announced.
