Pitlochry Festival Theatre has announced the full casting for the upcoming production of Samuel Beckett’s Happy Days, part of Alan Cumming’s inaugural season as artistic director at the Scottish venue.

Joining Siobhán Redmond (as Winnie) on stage will be Forbes Masson (as Winnie’s husband, Willie). Redmond and Masson recently starred opposite each other in The High Life – The Musical for the National Theatre of Scotland, while Masson concludes his run in Lear at Pitlochry Festival Theatre this Saturday, 1 August.

Samuel Beckett’s Happy Days was written in 1960 and premiered off-Broadway at the Cherry Lane Theatre on 17 September 1961. Often described as a “surreal masterpiece”, the play is a haunting exploration of human choices, revolving around a woman named Winnie, whose life is falling apart around her, and yet she has never been happier.

Under the direction of  Roxana Silbert, the creative team includes designer Emma Bailey, lighting designer Colin Grenfell and sound designer Hugh Barbour.

Happy Days will run in the Studio at Pitlochry Festival Theatre from 18 September to 10 October.
