The stage production of Nigel Slater's biographical novel Toast will embark on a tour this autumn, following its upcoming run in London.

Based on Slater's teenage years as he develops a love of baking as well as dealing with a fractious family environment, Henry Filloux-Bennett's play first opened at The Lowry in Salford before having a sell-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe.

The tour will open in Huddersfield, where it runs from 19 to 24 August, before visiting Oxford, Southend, Newcastle, Malvern, Northampton, Salisbury, Manchester, York and Crewe, with further tour dates to be announced.

Slater said: "With the London run about to start, it's an extremely exciting time as the words on the page come to life once again. I'm thrilled that the play will continue its journey after The Other Palace, visiting venues around the country."

In her four-star review of the Edinburgh run, critic Sarah Crompton said: "the whole thing is a treat."

Tickets for the London production at The Other Palace are on sale now.
