Exclusive: Leeds Playhouse has announced that Lena Hall and Oliver Tompsett will take centre stage in the highly anticipated new musical In Dreams.

Penned by David West Read, the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning writer (known for his work on Schitt’s Creek and & Juliet), the production is set to make its premiere from 3 July to 5 August.

Under the direction of Luke Sheppard (& Juliet), the show is set to blend Roy Orbison’s iconic music. The story revolves around the former lead singer of a country rock band who, at a crucial moment in her life, throws a party at a family-run Mexican restaurant, aiming to reconnect with old friends while concealing her true motivations.

Leading the cast is Hall, a Broadway star and Tony Award-winning actor who will take on the role of Kenna, the lead singer. Opposite Hall, Tompsett (& Juliet, We Will Rock You) steps into the role of Ramsey, a fiery and passionate drummer who reenters Kenna’s life after a long separation.

Director Luke Sheppard expressed his excitement for the upcoming show, stating: “This show is a celebration of the power of people coming together, and what an incredible cast we have joining us to do just that. With extraordinary talent from both sides of the Atlantic, this company is going to lift the roof of Leeds Playhouse with music and laughter. It’s a privilege to have them join us, and I can’t wait to get started.”

The cast also includes Manuel Pacific as restaurant owner Oscar, as well as Gabriela García, who will portray Oscar’s long-time girlfriend Nicole. Sian Reese-Williams and Noël Sullivan will portray married lyricist Jane and guitarist Donovan, respectively.

Joining the ensemble, Alma Cuervo will bring her skills all the way from New York to portray Oscar’s grandmother, Ana Sofia, while Richard Trinder takes on the role of widower George. Leon Craig is set to play Tom, with further casting to be announced.

Working alongside Read and Sheppard is choreographer Fabian Aloise. Also on the creative team are Arnulfo Maldonado, costume designer Fay Fullerton and lighting designer Howard Hudson.

Catherine Jayes joins the creative team as music supervisor, alongside sound designer Tom Marshall, musical director Patrick Hurley, video designer George Reeve, casting directors Annelie Powell CDG and Stephen Kopel, associate director Tania Azevedo, associate choreographer Paris Green, , associate designer (US) Oscar Escobedo, associate designer (UK) Verity Sadler, costume supervisor Laura Hunt, sound associate Callum Wills and Casting Assistant Alice Walters.
