The Bridge Theatre has announced casting for The Oresteia, which will follow its award-winning production of Into the Woods.

Directed by Simon Stone (after Aeschylus and others), it will begin previews on Thursday 2 July 2026 with an opening night scheduled for Tuesday 14 July.

The production, which is in collaboration with Wouter van Ransbeek, will play for 11 weeks until Saturday 19 September 2026.

Set to star will be David Morrissey as Christopher, Tom Glynn-Carney as Augie, Mary-Louise Parker as Montie, Rosie Sheehy as Alice, Lloyd Hutchinson as Melville, John Macmillan as Jerome and Archie Madekwe as Lorenzo.

Sheehy said: “I went to watch Phaedra four times, so being in one of Simon’s shows has been on the bucket list for a while. The Oresteia is rarely done so if you can get the chance to be in it you should grab it with both hands!

“We might think we’ve advanced massively over the last couple of millennia but the themes and emotions at the heart of these stories are still so relevant and the need for humanity to watch humanity on stage still so important.”

The Oresteia follows the House of Atreus, where returning conqueror Agamemnon is murdered by his wife Clytemnestra, their son Orestes kills her in revenge, and is then hunted by the Furies for the crime. The trilogy ends with Athena establishing a court of law to judge Orestes. Written by Aeschylus, it was first performed in Athens in 458 BCE.

Parker added: “The Oresteia has intrigued me for a long time so I’m thrilled to be bringing it to life with Simon. I saw his Yerma in New York and thought it was one of the greatest things I’ve ever seen in my life.”

Stone is famous for his radical new takes on original material, with productions including Yerma at the Young Vic, Phaedra at the National Theatre and the WhatsOnStage Award-nominated The Lady from the Sea at the Bridge last year.

A number of creative team members from that production also now return, including set designer Lizzie Clachan, music by Stefan Gregory, lighting designer Nick Schlieper, and casting director Jessica Ronane.

Tickets are on sale now.
