Last year, there were numerous celebrations around the 50th anniversary of John Osborne’s Look Back in Anger. Last night (7 March 2007, previews from 23 February), the Old Vic marked the same milestone for the original “angry young man’s” follow-up masterpiece, The Entertainer.
Set in the 1950s in a society on the brink of change and at war over the Suez Canal, The Entertainer follows embittered and struggling music hall comedian Archie Rice trying to keep a semblance of happiness within his dysfunctional family.
The Old Vic production is designed by Anthony Lamble, with lighting by Peter Mumford and music by John Addison. It continues its limited season until 19 May 2007.
