Merrily We Roll Along confirms dates and additional cast for first-ever Broadway revival
Daniel Radcliffe, Jonathan Groff and Lindsay Mendez will all reprise their respective roles from the Off-Broadway production
Dates have been announced for the first-ever Broadway revival of Stephen Sondheim and George Furth's Merrily We Roll Along – a transfer of Maria Friedman's recent hit New York Theatre Workshop production. Performances will begin 19 September at the Hudson Theatre, running for a strictly limited 18-week engagement.
Reprising their roles from the off-Broadway mounting, the show will star Daniel Radcliffe as Charley Kringas, Jonathan Groff as Franklin Shepard and Lindsay Mendez as Mary Flynn. Also returning to the company are Krystal Joy Brown as Gussie Carnegie, Katie Rose Clarke as Beth Shepard, and Reg Rogers as Joe Josephson. Rounding out the cast are Sherz Aletaha, Leana Rae Concepcion, Morgan Kirner, Corey Mach, Talia Robinson, Amanda Rose, Jamila Sabares-Klemm, Brian Sears, Evan Alexander Smith, Christian Strange, Koray Tarhan, Vishal Vaidya, Natalie Wachen, and Jacob Keith Watson.
Spanning three decades in the entertainment business, Merrily We Roll Along charts the turbulent relationship between composer Franklin Shepard and his two lifelong friends — writer Mary and lyricist/playwright Charley.
Friedman's production originated at the Menier Chocolate Factory in 2012, before moving to London's West End. It has subsequently been seen in Boston and Tokyo, in addition to the run in New York City. Merrily We Roll Along famously flopped on Broadway in 1981, though it has gone on to become one of the most popular works in the Sondheim repertory. The musical is based on the play by George S Kaufman and Moss Hart.
