The winner of RuPaul's Drag Race, Bianca Del Rio, has been cast in Everybody's Talking About Jamie, it has been confirmed.

Roy Haylock, best-known as his drag alter ego Bianco Del Rio, will make his West End debut in the role of Loco Chanelle/Hugo from 6 May. Del Rio takes over from Shane Richie in the piece and will perform until 29 June 2019.

De Rio said: "I'm absolutely ecstatic to be joining the brilliant cast of Everybody's Talking About Jamie! What better way to return to the musical theatre stage than in a WEST END production?! It's such an incredible honour. Helen Mirren beat me to playing Queen Elizabeth, so I accepted the role of the next best admired queen… Loco Chanelle!"

Del Rio won season six of the hit TV series RuPaul's Drag Race and received the Best New Television Personality Award from NewNowNest in 2014. Since winning the show, he has toured around the world, starred in two feature films and written a book.

As Haylock, he has starred in productions including Cabaret and Gypsy. He will join current cast members: which include Layton Williams (Jamie New), Faye Tozer (Miss Hedge), Rebecca McKinnis (Margaret New) and Sabrina Sandhu (Pritti Pasha).

The piece is Dan Gillespie Sells and Tom MacRae's musical inspired by the story of a documentary about Jamie Campbell who wanted to be a drag queen at the age of 16.
