Anthony Clark stages new play David at Watford Palace

Former Hampstead Theatre artistic director Anthony Clark will direct his new play Our Brother David at Watford Palace Theatre next month.

Opening on 17 April 2012 (previews from 13 April), the play is billed as “a poignant and touching story inspired by Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya”.

The action is set in the summer of 2010. Despite the rapid erosion of Fairwold’s coastline and a global recession threatening local businesses, ex celebrity photographer David Tiller and his sister Sophie are managing to run their old family home as a guest house. But their peaceful existence is threatened when their one-time brother in law Lawrence and his stunning new girlfriend decide to spend a weekend by the sea…

The cast is Penny Layden, Penny Beaumont, Justin Avoth, Beryl King, Richard O’Callaghan, Michael Lumsden, Camilla Power and Hugh John.

Anthony Clark was artistic director of Hampstead from 2003 to 2010 where his productions included: My Best Friend by Tamsin Oglesby, Tender by Abi Morgan, The Maths Tutor by Clare McIntyre, Revelations by Stephen Lowe, When the Night Begins by Hanif Kureishi and Osama the Hero by Dennis Kelly.
