As this new trailer reveals, Sheila Hancock has had a dramatic TOWIE-style makeover for her forthcoming role in Barking in Essex, in which she stars alongside Lee Evans, Keeley Hawes, Karl Johnson and Montserrat Lombard.

Clive Exton’s 2005 comedy centres on Algie Packer (Evans), a notorious Essex
gangster who’s done seven years inside and has come home to
collect his booty – £3,672,000 in untraceable notes. But there’s
something Algie’s family have forgotten to mention… The Packers are
Essex’s lovable, but most dysfunctional family.

“I’ve done a lot of serious stuff like Pinter and Beckett,” Evans told Whatsonstage.com recently, “so with this I just want to have some fun.”

Barking in Essex opens at Wyndham’s Theatre on 16 September 2013 (previews from 6 September).

Sheila Hancock’s recent stage credits include The Last of the Duchess, Sister Act, The Anniversary and Cabaret (for which she won the Olivier for Best Supporting Performance in a Musical).
