Dinnerladies and Coronation Street actress Shobna Gulati is to take on the role of Ray in the hit new musical Everybody's Talking About Jamie.

The show originally opened in Sheffield and is currently running at the Apollo Theatre. Dan Gillespie Sells wrote the music for the piece, which has a book and lyrics from Tom MacRae. The show is based on the real-life story of Jamie Campbell who decided he wanted to be a drag queen as a teenager and his mother Margaret who supports him.

Gulati takes over from Mina Anwar and joins a cast including John McCrea as Jamie, Josie Walker as Margaret, Tamsin Carroll as Miss Hedge, Lucie Shorthouse as Pritti Pasha and Phil Nichol as Hugo.

Everybody's Talking About Jamie won three WhatsOnStage Awards this year, including Best New Musical and was nominated for five Olivier Awards.

Gulati's previous roles include Anita in Victoria Wood's Dinnerladies and Sunita in Coronation Street as well as Daisy Pulls it Off at the Park Theatre, Anita & Me at the Birmingham Rep and Grease at Leicester Curve.
