Casting for the upcoming production of On Your Feet! has been announced.
The musical, which tells the story of Emilio and Gloria Estefan, is to run at the London Coliseum from 14 June to 31 August. Prior to this, there will be performances at Curve, Leicester from 3 to 8 June.
Taking on the role of Gloria Estefan will be Christie Prades. Prades played the role on Broadway and is currently in the US tour of the show. Other credits include Vanessa in In the Heights and West Side Story. George Ioannides, who has starred in Annie and Mamma Mia! and was Eduardo Cortez in the recent production of An Officer and a Gentleman, will play Emilio Estefan. At certain performances Philippa Stefani (Rent, In the Heights and the original cast of Wicked) will play Gloria Estefan.
Madalena Alberto will also star in the show, taking on the role of Gloria Fajardo. Alberto's West End credits include the title role of Evita at the Dominion Theatre and Grizabella in Cats. Karen Mann (Scrooge, Sister Act) will play Consuelo.
Completing the cast will be Hollie Cassar, Francisco Del Solar, Katie Dunsden, Eduardo Enrikez, Laura Friedrich Tejero, Denzel Giskus, Francesca Lara Gordon, Yonly Leyva Desdunes, Elia Lo Tauro, Martin McCarthy, Alicia Mencía, Ciro Lourencio Meulens, Carl Patrick, Clayton Rosa, Julia Ruiz Fernandez, Shanna Michelle Slaap, Dawnita Smith, Frank van Hengel, Despina Violari and Alain Zambrana Borges.
Klaudia Gjergji, Holly McDonagh, Emily Perra will share the role of Little Gloria and Santiago Huertas Ruiz, Jonathan Naranjo, Alejandro Puentes Motato will share the role of Nayib/Young Emilio/Jeremy.
After its run at the Coliseum, the show heads out on a tour from 30 September, running in cities including Manchester, Sunderland, Plymouth, Nottingham, Edinburgh, Belfast and Cardiff.
The show is directed by Jerry Mitchell (Kinky Boots, Legally Blonde), with choreography from Sergio Trujillo. On Your Feet! has a book from Alexander Dinelaris, who wrote the film Birdman, and features songs by the Estefans including "Rhythm is Gonna Get You", "Conga", "Get On Your Feet", "Don't Want To Lose You" and "1-2-3". The piece tells the love story of Emilio and Gloria Estefan and charts their journey from Cuba, to Miami and beyond.
