Previous WhatsOnStage Award winner Martyn Ellis will play The Wizard in Wicked at the Apollo Victoria from 17 February 2014.

Ellis, whose credits include One Man, Two Guvnors (NT and West End), My Fair Lady (Sheffield) and Guys and Dolls (Donmar West End – for which he received a WhatsOnStage Award), will take over from Sam Kelly.

Kelly, who returned to play The Wizard, a role he previously played in 2009/2010, in November, has withdrawn from the production due to illness.

Ellis joins a cast led by Willemijn Verkaik (Elphaba) and Savannah Stevenson (Glinda).

Also in the current cast are: Jeremy Taylor (Fiyero), Sue Kelvin (Madame Morrible), Paul Clarkson (Doctor Dillamond); Sam Lupton (Boq), Katie Rowley Jones (Nessarose), Emma Hatton (Standby Elphaba) and Sophie Linder-Lee (Standby Glinda).
