The theatre will host the premiere of Kneehigh’s ”The Tin Drum”
Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse has announced its new autumn/winter season.
Kneehigh's new production of The Tin Drum will get its world premiere in September. Written by Carl Rose, the musical is based on the 1959 Günter Grass novel about the life of Oskar Matzerath who was born with an adult's capacity for thought and perception. It will have music by Charles Hazlewood and will be directed by Mike Shepherd. It opens on 28 September at the Everyman.
Over the Christmas period, Mark Chatterton will direct this year's "rock 'n' roll panto" The Little Mermaid in the Playhouse. The adaptation written by Chatterton and Sarah A Nixon, who regularly write the theatre's pantos, will run from 25 November.
In the Everyman, Loveday Ingram will direct Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery. Written by Olivier Award-winning playwright Ken Ludwig, the story is about the famous detective who is sent to investigate the death of Charles Baskerville and a sighting of a black beast. It will run from 8 December to 13 January.
In October, Market Theatre Johannesburg will visit the theatre for the first time with their production of The Suitcase. With music from composer Hugh Masekela, the story is about the journey of a young couple who leave their home to find a better live in Durban. It runs from 4 to 7 October.
The season also sees touring productions of Headlong's People, Places and Things (14 to 18 November), Out of Joint's Rita, Sue and Bob Too (10 to 14 October), Northern Broadsides For Love or Money (21 to 25 November) and 1927's Golem (18 to 21 October). The West End production of Around the World in 80 Days will also play on 27 and 28 October.
