Laura Linney to star in My Name is Lucy Barton at the Bridge Theatre

Laura Linney has been cast in the stage adaptation of Elizabeth Strout’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel My Name is Lucy Barton.

Directed by Richard Eyre at the Bridge Theatre, the monologue is adapted by Rona Munro from Strout’s 2016 New York Times best-selling short novel, and sees the titular character wake after an operation to find her mother, who she hasn't seen in years, sat at the foot of her bed.

The production – which runs from 6 to 23 June 2018, with previews from 2 June – reunites Linney and Eyre after their previous collaboration on Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, which played on Broadway in 2002 earning Linney a Tony Award nomination.

Linney's other stage credits include Six Degrees of Separation, The Seagull and most recently The Little Foxes. Her work in film includes The Truman Show, Mystic River and Love Actually. This will be her London stage debut.

Also announced today, Claire Skinner (The Father) will join the previously announced Ophelia Lovibond in the world premiere of Barney Norris’ Nightfall, which runs from 8 May to 26 May 2018, with previews from 28 April.

The Bridge Theatre is a new venue located next to Tower Bridge. Run by former National Theatre artistic director Nicholas Hytner, the venue opened in October with Young Marx starring Rory Kinnear, and is currently presenting a promenade production of Julius Caesar featuring Ben Whishaw, David Morrissey and Michelle Fairley.

My Name is Lucy Barton runs at the Bridge Theatre from 6 to 23 June, with previews from 2 June.
