Full cast for David Threlfall-led King Lear announced

Casting has been revealed for Matthew Dunster’s reimagining of King Lear.

Part of the Royal Exchange Theatre’s 50th anniversary season, the revival will play from 2 October to 15 November.

Set to star in the Shakespearean tragedy is David Threlfall in the title role.

He is joined by WhatsOnStage Award and Mercury Prize-nominated songwriter and performing musician Nadine Shah as Goneril, Lisa Diveney as Regan, Isobel Akuwudike as Cordelia, Jonathan Slinger as Gloucester, Nicholas Karimi as Albany and Brawn, Tom Varey as Edgar, Paddy Stafford as Edmund and Jason Done as Kent.

Also in the cast are Ed Coleman as Cornwall and French Officer, Gabin Kongolo as France and Curan, Anwar Russell as Burgundy and Oswald, and Ryan Pope as Elias.

Completing the cast are Grace Jabbari as Doctor and Edmund’s Lover, Jessica Mannion as Guen, Harry Clarke as Ned, and Rupert Hill as Torin.

On the creative team, Dunster is joined by set designer Anna Fleischle, costume designer Cat Full, associate director Emma Baggott, lighting designer Lucy Carter, composer Shah, sound designer Holly Khan, movement director Charlotte Broom, fight and intimacy director Maisie Carter, casting director Amy Ball, associate set designer Full, Birkbeck assistant director Lauren Tranter, production manager Jim Leaver, stage manager (London) Olivia Kerslake, stage manager (Manchester) Anastasia Booth, deputy stage manager Olivia Roberts, and assistant stage manager Jamie Craker.
