Finborough theatre announces line-up for 2018 spring season

The Finborough Theatre in west London has unveiled its plans for the first quarter of 2018.

January begins with the European premiere of Christopher Chen's Into the Numbers, based on the events of the Nanking massacre, which occurred 80 years ago. Running from 2 to 27 January, the piece will be directed by Georgie Staight.

The theatre will also present the world premiere of Henry Darke's Booby's Bay, based on the housing crisis in Cornwall, from 30 January to 24 February. The show will be directed by Chris White, and marks Darke's playwriting debut.

Ghassan Kanafani's novella Returning to Haifa will have its UK premiere from 27 February to 24 March. In a new translation by Ismail Khalidi and Naomi Wallace and with direction by Caitlin McLeod, the piece shows two families, one Israeli and one Palestinian, as they navigate the formation of the state of Israel.

Sue Healy will debut new play Imaginationship, about relationships and personal conflicts based in Great Yarmouth, between 7 and 23 January. The show has direction by Tricia Thorns. Henry J Byron's Cyril's Success, a meta-theatrical satire, will be revived for the first time since 1890, playing Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays between 4 and 20 February, directed by Hannah Boland Moore.

Jeff Page's Checkpoint Chana will have its world premiere throughout March 2018, directed by Manuel Bau. The show examines the point at which pro-Palestinian criticism of Israel and anti-Semitism blur.
