Emma Corrin, Harriet Walter, Arty Froushan and more to star in Suddenly Last Summer at the National Theatre

Michael Grandage will return to the National Theatre for the first time since 2010 to direct Tennessee Williams’ Rarely performed play Suddenly Last Summer.

Emma Corrin will star as Catharine Holly alongside Harriet Walter as Violet Venable and Arty Froushan as Doctor Cukrowicz.

Further cast members announced for the revival include Mofé Akandé as Sister Felicity, Emma Beattie as Miss Foxhill, Iwan Davies as George Holly and Finty Williams as Mrs Holly.

Set in New Orleans in 1935, the drama centers on Violet Venable, who is determined to protect the reputation of her late son Sebastian, when her niece Catharine presents a conflicting account of the events surrounding his death last summer.

The creative and artistic team joining Grandage includes set and costume designer Christopher Oram, lighting designer Howard Hudson, music and sound designer Adam Cork, video designer Andrzej Goulding, dialect coach Penny Dyer and voice coach Shereen Ibrahim.

Casting is led by Alastair Coomer and Martin Poile, with associate director Sophie Dillon Moniram and associate set and costume designer Bence Baksa completing the offstage team.

Tickets for the production will go on sale from midday on 24 September 2027 via the venue’s website.

The production will run in the Olivier Theatre from 19 February to 24 April 2027.
