Evita has picked up five trophies at the 26th Annual WhatsOnStage Awards.
The Jamie Lloyd-directed production was the most minted musical revival of the night, winning over half of its nine nominations.
Rachel Zegler‘s star turn earned her the Best Performer in a Musical prize, where she was nominated alongside co-star Diego Andres Rodriguez, who played Che. The production also picked up awards for Fabian Aloise’s choreography, Jon Clark’s lighting design, and Lloyd, Nick Ward, and David Anderson’s video design.
In what was something of a homecoming, the Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice musical had something of a homecoming with the company returning to the stage (and balcony) where it spent its summer. Its fifth and final award was the coveted Best Musical Revival award, where it beat Regent’s Park’s Brigadoon, the Watermill’s actor-musician Jesus Christ Superstar, Sheffield Theatres’ festive Little Shop of Horrors, Curve’s My Fair Lady, and the Menier and West End transfer of The Producers.
