The cast joining Tom Burke in the new production of Don Carlos has been announced. The show opens next month at Exeter Northcott before touring to NST Southampton and Rose Theatre, Kingston.

Directed by Gadi Roll, the piece is a revival of Schiller's 18th century play and follows a political struggle against the backdrop of the Spanish Inquisition.

Burke will play Rodrigo, Marquis of Posa, and is joined by Alexandra Dowling (The Musketeers) as Eboli, Darrell D'Silva (X) as Philip, Kelly Gough (A Streetcar Named Desire) as Elizabeth, Jason Morell (The Biograph Girl) as Domingo, Vinta Morgan (The Merchant of Venice) as Alba, Samuel Valentine (The Stepmother) as Don Carlos, Stephen Ventura (Great Apes as Lerma) and Flip Webster (The Hound of the Baskervilles) as Duchess. They are joined by Alexander Allin, Dan Ball, Guy Dennys and Euan Shanahan who complete the company's ensemble.

The show, which is a co-production between Exeter Northcott, the Rose and NST in association with new theatre company Ara, has set and costume design by Rosanna Vize with lighting design by Jonathan Samuels.

Roll said: "This is a play for our times. It mercilessly and sensationally depicts an extreme world of state power and corruption, but at its heart are some of the greatest heroes ever written."
