Comedians Jenny Eclair and Shappi Khorsandi are joining forces with poet Wendy Cope, and writers Suhayla El-Bushra, Brona C Titley and Natalie Haynes to create a musical comedy based on Greek classic The Assemblywomen.
The show, titled Women in Power will run between 6 and 29 September as part of the Nuffield Southampton Theatre's autumn 2018 season and will be directed by Blanche McIntyre.
Elsewhere in the season, the previously announced The Mountaintop (26 September to 6 October) will open in the NST City's Studio theatre and will tour studio theatres across the UK.
Events will be held as part of The Bungalow Cafe Festival between 6 September and 13 October, marking 100 years since women were given the right to vote in the UK. Ruby Wax will perform alongside a reworking of the story of Medusa and Bullish by Lucy J Skilbeck.
Over Christmas, NST will premiere two productions for children and families – Humbug! The Hedgehog Who Couldn't Sleep from Dumbshow and Billionaire Boy (20 November to 6 January), based on David Walliams' bestselling book.
The theatre's opening show The Shadow Factory will be returning in January, running until 2 March, while Don Carlos, starring Tom Burke, will run from 23 October to 3 November.
