Fans of Dirty Dancing will know that “Nobody puts Baby in a corner” isn’t the only classic line from the 1987 film. “I carried a watermelon?!” – uttered by Baby when she first encounters sexy dance teacher Johnny Castle at a private staff party to which she, um, carried a watermelon – is right up there too. And if you can carry a watermelon to the Aldwych Theatre, you may be able to see the West End musical based on the film for free.

To celebrate the UK’s first-ever National Watermelon Day this summer, producers of Dirty Dancing have issued a challenge to fans. The first 20 people to carry a watermelon to the Aldwych – where the screen-to-stager has been selling out since it opened in October 2006 – at 10.00am on National Watermelon Day (Monday 4 August 2008) will win a free pair of top-price tickets to see the show that night. The race is on!
