Jon Robyns and Amy Griffiths will lead the cast of the Sherman brothers’ much-loved musical
Casting has been announced for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang which opens at West Yorkshire Playhouse, Leeds on 2 December for a nine-week season finishing on 30 January 2016.
Jon Robyns (Memphis, Spamalot, Avenue Q) will play Caractacus Potts, with Amy Griffiths (Everyman, Stephen Ward, The Pajama Game) as Truly Scrumptious.
The production – which is directed by WYP's artistic director James Brining – will also feature Don Gallagher as Lord Scrumptious/Baron Bomburst, Tamsin Carroll as Baroness Bomburst, Stephen Matthews as The Childcatcher and Andy Hockley as Grandpa Potts.
They are joined by Ewen Cummins as The Toymaker/Mr Coggins, Sam Harrison as Boris and Scott Paige as Goran.
Completing the cast are Kathryn Barnes, Rosanna Bates, Alex Louize Bird, Abigail Climer, Jade Davies, Matt Gillett, Ewan Gillies, Joanna Goodwin, Christopher D Hunt, Paul Iveson, Nia Jermin, Kelsie-Rae Marshall, Mollie Melia-Redgrave, Perry O’Dea, Matt Overfield, Ross Russell, Craig Turner and Robert Wilkes.
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang – which is based on the 1968 film starring Dick Van Dyke – has music and lyrics by Richard M Sherman and Robert B Sherman, who were also responsible for Mary Poppins, The Slipper and the Rose, The Aristocats and The Jungle Book.
Stephen Mear choreographs with Musical Supervision by Stephen Ridley and set and costume design by Simon Higlett.
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang will begin a UK and Ireland Tour on 10 February at Southampton Mayflower. Further details of the tour to be announced.
