The managing director of Assembly Festival at the Edinburgh Fringe has issued an apology after West End performer Layton Williams was evicted from its premises on Sunday evening.

Tweeting about the incident, Williams – whose credits include Rent and Hairspray – said: "A way to ruin my @edfringe experience! I just got KICKED OUT of @AssemblyFest coz I looked "suspicious"!"

Williams goes on to claim that security told him he looked like someone who had trespassed two weeks earlier.

"Assembly would like to reassure all performers and audiences that we are committed to making sure that our spaces remain welcoming for everyone attending our shows and using our venues."
