The show, which is reported to be in development, is being penned by ”Jet Set Go!”’s Jake Brunger and Pippa Cleary
A new musical based on The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13¾ is in development.
Sue Townsend’s book, chronicling the life of a frustrated Leicester teenager, was one of the biggest selling titles of the 1980s and was subsequently adapted as both a play and a TV series.
And now, according to The Stage, a musical version is under commission by Leicester’s Curve Theatre and the Royal and Derngate in Northampton.
The venues have reportedly approached Jake Brunger and Pippa Cleary, whose previous credits include Jet Set Go! and The Great British Soap Opera, to pen the adaptation.
Curve chief executive Fiona Allan told The Stage: "We think the show is in great shape. Obviously it needs a bit more work but with where it’s got the next step really has to be the stage.
"We would love to find a commercial producer who can see its potential, not just for touring but for coming into London."
