Lindsay Posner‘s Christmas revival of Michael Frayn‘s multi-award winning 1982 comedy Noises Off opened last night (13 December, previews from 3 December 2011) at the Old Vic.
Noises Off – a play within a play – follows the amateur touring production of a dreadful sex
comedy Nothing On, as it travels around the country. From the disastrous dress rehearsal with the cast still fumbling with entrances and exits and bothersome props, to the final performance of missed cues and forgotten lines, it portrays the explosive personal relationships that have led to off-stage shenanigans and on-stage bedlam.
The cast and crew were joined to celebrate their opening night with an event at the Old Vic Tunnels, joined by guests including Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Matilda Wickham, Kevin Trainor, Michelle Terry, Paul O’Grady, Fiona Laird, Emma Amos, Caroline Langrishe, Paul Miller, Ben Aldridge and Ruby Bentall.
