Following its 2017 run at the Menier Chocolate Factory, the musical adaptation of Sue Townsend's The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole aged 13¾ transfers to the West End this month, so we paid a visit to the rehearsal room to find out more.

Opening at the Ambassadors Theatre on 15 June and running until 12 October, the musical is based on Townsend's series of novels about the young intellectual Adrian Mole as he grows up in the 1980s.

Directed by Luke Sheppard, the musical has book and lyrics by Jake Brunger and music and lyrics by Pippa Cleary.

WhatsOnStage critic James Fitzgerald gave the show five-stars when it ran at the Menier, saying the musical was "an entertainment-focused spectacle with smart jokes and even better songs."

The production has choreography by Rebecca Howell, set and costume design by Tom Rogers, lighting design by Howard Hudson, musical direction by Mark Collins, musical supervision and orchestrations by Paul Herbert.
