Almeida's Summer and Smoke to transfer to the West End
The show ran at the Almeida in February
The Almeida's revival of Tennessee Williams' Summer and Smoke is to transfer to the West End, it has been announced.
The show opened in February this year with Patsy Ferran and Matthew Needham playing Alma and John respectively. The two will transfer with the show along with the rest of the cast which includes Eric MacLennan, Nancy Crane, Seb Carrington, Tok Stephen, Anjana Vasan and Forbes Masson.
Directed by Rebecca Frecknall, the show is designed by Tom Scutt with lighting from Lee Curran, sound from Carolyn Downing and composition from Angus MacRae. The show will run at Duke of York's between 10 November and 19 January.
The piece was first performed on Broadway in 1948 and was nearly sixty years before the London premiere of the play, which opened at the Apollo Theatre in 2006 starring Rosamund Pike.
Summer and Smoke is about Alma who meets John over one summer in Mississippi, but their different views and upbringings mean they struggle to connect.
