Shakespeare: Coming to a Supermarket Near You

If grocery shopping is the errand dreaded most on your weekly list of to-dos, then you’re in luck – the trip to the supermarket is about to get a bit more interesting.

Teatro Vivo is reviving their free performance of Supermarket Shakespeare (21 – 26 April and 28 April – 3 May) in two London supermarkets. To celebrate Shakespeare’s 23 April birthday, the theatre troupe will first perform through the aisles of Sainsbury’s Lee Green branch (14 Burnt Ash Road) before transferring to a second week-long run at the Forest Hill location (34- 48 London Road).

Under the direction of Mark Stevenson, Teatro Vivo’s cast of six actors – including Kas Darley, Laura Hooper and Natasha Magigi – bring to life characters from Shakespeare’s sonnet no. 91.

Annette Skopelos, who stumbled upon a Supermarket Shakespeare performance in her local Asda last April, is one shopper who fancied the experience: “I thoroughly enjoyed this surprise amongst the potatoes, not least because of the surprised expressions of the other unwitting members of the audience!”
