Actress Maddy Hill will take the title role of a new version of Cymbeline at Shakespeare's Globe.

The EastEnders actress will star as Imogen in the piece, which will be directed by Matthew Dunster.

Imogen refocuses Shakespeare's play onto the character of Imogen. Dunster said: "In refocusing Cymbeline and re-naming it Imogen, it was vital that we found an actress who we could build the production around. Maddy has a terrific contemporary bite, and her presence will help me to explore the play, to make it feel fresh and about London."

In Shakespeare's Cymbeline, Imogen is the daughter of King Cymbeline, who marries against her father's will.

Dunster's previous credits include the recent Olivier Award winning Hangmen, Love's Sacrifice and The Seagull.

Hill won Best Newcomer at the National Television Awards for her role as Nancy Carter in EastEnders.

Imogen runs at Shakespeare's Globe from 17 September until 16 October.
