One Day will open in the West End this autumn – and you can hear a performance now!

The new stage adaptation is based on David Nicholls’ 2009 novel about the long-term and fractious relationship between Emma and Dexter, with the London season following a preview run at Edinburgh’s Lyceum Theatre.

WhatsOnStage and Olivier Award nominee Jamie Muscato will once again play Dexter, while Sharon Rose, labelled a name to watch in 2026, will return as Emma. The pair were exclusively revealed by WhatsOnStage last July.

Penned by David Greig, it has music and lyrics by Abner and Amanda Ramirez of Johnnyswim, with additional material by Jeremy Sams.

The show is set on St Swithin’s Day (15 July, which is today!) across multiple years as a couple grow from students into adults. It was adapted into a solidly received film in 2011, followed by a much-loved 2024 Netflix series.

You can listen to Rose and Abner Ramirez perform “Blackbirds” from the show here:

Directed by Max Webster, the creative team includes choreographer Carrie-Anne Ingrouille, musical supervisor, musical director and co-arranger Nigel Lilley, set and costume designer Rae Smith, lighting designer Bruno Poet, sound designer Simon Baker, orchestrator and co-arranger Simon Hale, and casting director Stuart Burt.

It will run at the Garrick Theatre from 17 November, booking to 14 March 2027. Tickets are on sale now.
