Damon Albarn to write a West End musical?
Could the Blur and Gorillaz frontman be swapping the top 40 for the West End?
Blur and Gorillaz star Damon Albarn is reportedly writing a West End musical for his next endeavour.
As surprising as this may seem, it won't be the first time he has turned his writing talents to theatre; in 2011, he premiered Dr Dee: An English Opera at the Manchester International Festival, which he wrote with Rufus Norris, receiving a good reception from critics.
Albarn told the Daily Star at this weekend's Latitude Festival: "It's funny for me to say 'I'm writing a musical', but, yes, that's what I'm doing next."
But he remained secretive about the finer details of the musical itself, only saying "it started out with the same subject matter but was going to be a left field, experimental opera, but it's lurched into a mainstream musical for families".
