Richard Harrington will join the previously announced Katherine Parkinson in the world premiere of Home, I'm Darling, the new play from award-winning writer Laura Wade.

Harrington will play Johnny in the show. His previous credits include Poldark, Stone City Blue and Coriolanus, and he currently stars in Requiem.

Directed by Theatr Clwyd's AD Tamara Harvey, the show is the first co-production between the theatre in Mold and the National Theatre in London. It follows a woman's quest to become a domestic goddess, and asks just how happy a happily married couple are.

Parkinson will lead the company as Judy, and is best known for her roles in The IT Crowd, Dead Funny and Absent Friends.

The piece will also mark Wade's National Theatre debut. Her previous pieces include Posh at the Royal Court and in the West End, Tipping the Velvet at the Lyric Hammersmith and Kreutzer vs. Kreutzer at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse and on an international tour.

Harrington said: "Tamara has been creating some incredibly inspiring work up in North Wales, staging the premiere of this play shows her ambition and as usual I’m terrified. Laura’s work has a unique style that through sheer hard graft feels effortless. Katherine makes it look as natural as breathing in and out. Just hope I can keep up!"

Home, I'm Darling runs at Theatr Clwyd from 3 July to 14 July with previews from 25 June, before transferring to the Dorfman Theatre in July.
