West End Eurovision returns after four years

West End Eurovision, a charity event where London theatre shows sing Eurovision songs and are voted to win by the audience, is to return following a four-year hiatus.

The show pitches West End shows against each other in a battle to be crowned champions of West End Eurovision. This year the eight companies competing are 42nd Street, Aladdin, Dreamgirls, Hamilton, Kinky Boots, Mamma Mia!, The Phantom of the Opera and Young Frankenstein.

There will also be a guest appearance by past Eurovision Song Contest entrant, who has yet to be announced.

Three trophies – The Champions, The Best Ident Movie and The Best Creative are up for grabs on the night. Votes are cast by text and are approved by a panel of celebrity judges and judges from each competing show.

West End Eurovision will raise money for Make a Difference Trust, which works with partners to support HIV and AIDS projects in the UK and Sub-Saharan Africa.

At West End Eurovision 2014 Les Miserables were named joint winners with Mamma Mia! and Sir Cameron Mackintosh made a guest appearance on film. The night is staged ahead of the 63rd Annual Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon on 12 May.
