Theatre line up for Latitude Festival 2017 announced

The theatre line up for this year's Latitude Festival has been announced.

The Old Vic, in association with Fane Productions, will present Charlie Fink: Cover My Tracks, which will have a book by David Greig and direction by Max Webster. Fink is best known as the singer-songwriter and frontman for the indie folk band Noah and the Whale. The piece uses music and theatre to tell the story of a young songwriter who sets out to write a pop masterpiece.

The Royal Court will bring Manwatching to the festival. The piece sees male comedians read an unseen script on stage for the first time. The script is written by an anonymous woman, and is about what she thinks about sex with men. Seann Walsh will perform the piece at the festival.

The Court will also present the latest Hoipolloi show, Shôn Dale-Jones' Me and Robin Hood. The piece looks at Dale-Jones' relationship with Robin Hood since he was a seven year-old boy, and the dangerous effects of splitting the world into the wealthy and those living in poverty.

Edinburgh's Traverse will present Locker Room Talk by Gary McNair. The verbatim theatre piece is inspired by President Donald Trump's comments during his election campaign, which he dismissed as 'locker room talk'. To produce the piece, McNair interviewed men about their attitudes towards women, and the words of the men he interviewed will be performed by a cast of women.

Speaking about the piece, McNair said: "Some of the biggest theatres in the UK are sharing work there and it is a pleasure to represent the Traverse alongside them. Having performed there in 2011 I’ve been really keen to get back since, so I’m delighted that we can be there."

New writing company Paines Plough will be at the festival with Come to Where I'm From, their nationwide project which has seen over 100 playwrights take part since 2010. Audience members will wear headphones which will provide a tour of the UK through the different accents, experiences and impressions of the UK put together by the playwrights.

Following last year's The Red Shed, Mark Thomas will return to the festival this year with his new work-in-progress Predictable. Thomas will question the audience about what they think the future holds, and will draw on their answers to create a portrait of what the world could look like.

Dickie Beau will perform two pieces at the festival. In Re-Member Me, Beau lip-syncs to some of the great actors to play Hamlet over the decades, and he will also appear in Fruits of the Forest.

Fuel’s Clod Ensemble make their Latitude debut with On the High Road. The visual piece explores themes of migration, difference and intolerance.

Paul Barritt, known for his work with 1927 on their West End show Golem, will present his new production Cat and Mouse. The piece uses animation, big screen cartoons and a rock band.

Other theatre highlights include Sh!t Theatre's Dollywould, Black Honey Company's Hot Brown Honey and 201 Dance Company’s Skin.
