The Turbine Theatre at Battersea Power Station is set to showcase two new musicals this summer.
First up is Halls, a coming-of-age musical that follows eight university students as they learn to live together in student accommodation. The musical is directed by Andy Fickman, who brought Heathers to the stage, and written by Jennifer Harrison and George Stroud. After being performed at MTFest 2022 in workshop form, the production is now in the next stage of its development. It will be performed at the Turbine Theatre from 7 July to 30 July.
During its run, the creative team will work on the material and fine-tune it. The venue has said that the way audiences engage with the show will dictate how it develops and reaches a final state.
The second musical on offer this summer is Faking Bad – The Unauthorised Parody Methsical. Written by Rob Gathercole and directed by Andrew Beckett, the musical is a tribute to the popular TV series Breaking Bad.
The show condenses the story of a lost chemistry teacher into a one-act musical comedy performed by actor-musicians. The musical promises to speed through 62 hours of television in under 90 minutes, using an array of musical styles and theatrical tropes to keep audiences laughing on this joyous ride through the desert. It will be performed at the Turbine Theatre from 17 August.
