Sucker Punch revival features in Theatre Royal Stratford East new season

Artistic director Nadia Fall has announced her new season at Theatre Royal Stratford East.
Roy Williams' seminal play Sucker Punch is to feature as part of the season, which marks ten years since its premiere at the Royal Court in 2009. Roy Alexander Weise directs the piece, which will run between 19 June and Saturday 25 July 2020. The play is set in 1980s Britain in Charlie's gym where Leon and Troy are trying to figure out their place in the world.
Opening the season is the Royal and Derngate transfer of Our Lady of Kibeho which runs from 25 September to 2 November. James Dacre directs Katori Hall's play which is based on a remarkable true story and arrives in London following its run in Northampton in January.
Paines Plough's pop-up theatre Roundabout will arrive in the Theatre Square, infront of Stratford East. The company and Theatr Clwyd will present three new plays performed in rep including On The Other Hand We're Happy by Daf James, Dexter and Winter's Detective Agency by Nathan Bryon and Daughterhood by Charley Miles. The space will be in residence from 10 to 26 October.
The venue's legendary pantomime returns in 2019 with Dick Whittington, with book and lyrics by David Watson, music and lyrics from Robert Hyman and direction by John Haidar from 23 November.
Eclipse Theatre makes its Stratford East debut with The Gift by Janice Okoh, directed by Dawn Walton. The piece, which runs from 29 January to 15 February, is a comedy drama exploring imperialism, cross-racial adoption, cultural appropriation and tea drinking.
In April 2020, Nadia Fall will direct her new play Welcome to Iran, based on real-life testimonials which offer a witty snapshot of people in Iran today. Following its Stratford run, Welcome to Iran will transfer to the National Theatre for a limited run.
Ballet Black returns to Theatre Royal Stratford East for a fourth consecutive year in November and Ned Bennett's production of Equus, which originally opened at the venue, will transfer to Trafalgar Studios from July.
