Ian McKellen, Jade Anouka and Tom Burke at the Equus opening night at Theatre Royal Stratford East

The Theatre Royal Stratford East and English Touring Theatre co-production of Peter Shaffer's hit play Equus had its opening night in London and guests came to celebrate with the cast.

Ian McKellen, Tom Burke, Jade Anouka, Kate O'Flynn and more were among those at the production, which is directed by Ned Bennett and tours to Bristol, Newcastle, Salford, Bath, Guildford and Cambridge following its run in Stratford.

The piece, which follows a young boy who blinds a number of horses, has design from Georgia Lowe, lighting from Jessica Hung Han Yun, composition and sound from Giles Thomas and movement from Shelley Maxwell.

In his five-star review of the show, critic Alun Hood said it was "haunting, engrossing theatre. Troubling, rich and riveting, it's a must-see."
