Denville Hall has announced “Theatre Gives Day”, a special fundraising event taking place across the West End on Saturday 18 July as part of its 100th anniversary celebrations.

Denville Hall ambassadors will make curtain call appearances at participating theatres, encouraging audiences to support the charity’s £26 million Centenary Appeal, which aims to fund two new buildings alongside improvements to the existing site and grounds.

Participating productions include High Society at the Barbican Centre, The Play That Goes Wrong at the Duchess Theatre, Arcadia at the Duke of York’s Theatre, The Producers at the Garrick Theatre, Oliver! at the Gielgud Theatre, The Phantom of the Opera at His Majesty’s Theatre, Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child at the Palace Theatre, Stranger Things: The First Shadow at the Phoenix Theatre, Moulin Rouge! at the Piccadilly Theatre, Beetlejuice at the Prince Edward Theatre, The Book of Mormon at the Prince of Wales Theatre, Les Misérables at the Sondheim Theatre, Paddington The Musical at the Savoy Theatre, Trainspotting: The Musical at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, Six at the Vaudeville Theatre, Hamilton at the Victoria Palace Theatre and To Kill a Mockingbird at Wyndham’s Theatre, with more shows to be announced.

Current ambassadors include Steven Berkoff, Charles Dance, Lindsay Duncan, Richard Eyre, Michael Frayn, Derek Jacobi, Geraldine James, Ian McKellen, Helen Mirren, Simon Russell Beale, Patrick Stewart, David Suchet, Harriet Walter and Helen Worth.

Supporters include Michael Ball, Chris Biggins, Anthony Drewe, Josefina Gabrielle, Patricia Hodge, Felicity Kendal, Robert Lindsay, Laura Main, Nigel Planer, Jonathan Pryce, Clive Rowe, George Stiles, David Tennant, Harriet Thorpe, Catherine Tyldesley and Gary Wilmot.

Chair of trustees Joanne Benjamin said: “We are grateful to the many theatres and industry names that have agreed to take part in this day of celebration to support the work which Denville Hall has done for the past 100 years, looking after those in our industry who have given so much to us all, in their later lives. We hope Theatre Gives Day will add to the funds the Centenary Appeal is raising so that Denville Hall can continue this great work for the next century.”

Opened on 19 July 1926 as a “haven of rest” for retired actors and actresses, Denville Hall is now open to anyone working in the entertainment professions. The home provides residential, nursing and specialist dementia care, while promoting creativity and community for people who have spent their careers in the performing arts.

The Centenary Appeal is led by presidents Mirren, McKellen and Daniel Radcliffe. It aims to raise £13 million to build two new assisted living accommodation blocks, allowing residents to live independently with care available when needed, alongside new facilities including a café, restaurant, cinema, rehabilitation and yoga studio, gym and fully accessible gardens.

A further £13 million will establish Alfred’s Fund, an endowment named after founder Alfred Denville, to help secure Denville Hall’s future for the next century.

The public appeal launched in spring 2026 as part of a year-long programme of fundraising and celebratory events, with Nica Burns and Rosemary Squire leading the industry campaign alongside major philanthropic partners. Further centenary events will be announced in due course.
