On the long nights of winter, the moon and stars shine clear and the snow falls gently on roofs, streets and meadows. The Snow Queen glides silently through the sky and peers in windows as we sleep. She breathes ice on the window pane and her beautiful song of frost hangs in the air. When young Kai hears this song his heart is turned to ice and he is taken prisoner in the ice palace. Only his friend Gerda can save him now. She sets off on a perilous journey north, always north, to melt his heart and bring him home.

The theatre company promise wild robbers, penguins, reindeer, princes, princesses, ravens and even a polar bear on the way.

The Snow Queen is directed and adapted by Russ Tunney (Nuffield Theatre, Southampton), music composed and directed by Matt Baker (Artistic Director, Theatre in the Quarter), designed by Judith Croft, with film created by Helen Newall (Edge Hill University).

The production runs from 5 December – 9 January.
