Sheffield Theatres 2019 season to include Guys and Dolls and The Last King of Scotland

Sheffield Theatres has announced its plans for the remainder of 2019, including a new staging of The Last King of Scotland and a revival of Guys and Dolls.

The venue's artistic director Robert Hastie will direct a new production of Guys and Dolls in December 2019. Frank Loesser, Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows' musical, set in New York city and following the high roller Sky Masterson, features numbers including "Luck Be A Lady", "Guys and Dolls" and "Sit Down, You're Rocking the Boat".

Cast and creative team for the show is to be announced, with the musical running from 7 December to 18 January 2020.

Steve Waters will adapt Giles Foden's hit award-winning novel The Last King of Scotland, which makes its world premiere in September. Following self-declared President of Uganda Idi Amin, the book was previously adapted into an Oscar winning film. It will be directed by Gbolahan Obisesan, and runs from 27 September to 19 October.

April de Angelis will adapt Matt Haig's novel Reasons to Stay Alive, imagined for the stage and directed by Jonathan Watkins. Co-produced with English Touring Theatre, the piece runs from 13 September to 28 September and follows the story of Matt, whose life slowly falls apart aged 24.

Charlotte Keatley's My Mother Said I Never Should will be revived alongside fingersmiths theatre, in a new production featuring a cast of d/Deaf and hearing actors and performed in spoken English and BSL, accessible to hearing and Deaf audiences. Directed by Jeni Draper, the show runs from 8 to 23 November.

Casting has also been announced for the stage adaptation of Life of Pi, with the venue also confirming that the UK tour of hit musical Everybody's Talking About Jamie will open in Sheffield on 8 February 2020, where it runs until 29 February.
