Life of Pi stage production announced at Sheffield Theatres

Sheffield Theatres has announced a world premiere of the stage version of best selling novel Life of Pi.

The show is adapted by Lolita Chakrabarti and directed by Max Webster and will run from 28 June to 20 July.

Appearing in the production will be Hiran Abeysekera (The Prisoner) as Pi, Mina Anwar (Everybody's Talking About Jamie) as Ma, Orange Juice, Kate Colebrook (War Horse) as Richard Parker, Kammy Darweish (Approaching Empty) as Pi's Father, Fred Davis (The Hartlepool Monkey) as Richard Parker, Tara Divina (Blinded by the Light) as Rani, Tom Espiner (Berberian Sound Studio) as Father Martin, Raj Ghatak (Everybody's Talking About Jamie) as Mamaji, Owain Gwynn (War Horse) as Richard Parker, Syreeta Kumar (Equus) as Mrs Biology Kumar, David KS TSE (Chimerica) as Mr Okamoto, Habib Nasib Nader (The Grouch) as Cook and Gabby Wong (Pah La) as Lulu Chen.

Designs are from Tim Hatley and Finn Caldwell of Gyre and Gimble will create the puppet designs.

The play is based on the Man Booker-winning novel of the same name, written by Yann Martel, which is about what happens when a cargo ship sinks in the Pacific Ocean and the only survivors – a hyena, a zebra, an orangutan, a 16 year-old boy and a Bengal tiger – are stranded together on a lifeboat.

The book was adapted into a hit film by Ang Lee.
