Life of Pi stage production announced at Sheffield Theatres
Yann Martel's award-winning novel will be adapted for the stage
Sheffield Theatres has announced a world premiere of the stage version of best selling novel Life of Pi.
The show is adapted by Lolita Chakrabarti and directed by Max Webster and will run in June next year.
The show's designs are from Tim Hatley and Finn Caldwell of Gyre and Gimble will create the puppet designs.
The play is based on the Man Booker-winning novel of the same name, written by Yann Martel, which is about what happens when a cargo ship sinks in the Pacific Ocean and the only survivors – a hyena, a zebra, an orangutan, a 16 year-old boy and a Bengal tiger – are stranded together on a lifeboat.
The book was adapted into a hit film by Ang Lee.
Also announced today is Sheffield-based company Third Angel's The Department of Distractions, which will run in the Studio between 25 January and 2 February.
The pieces join the already announced season which includes Kiss Me Kate, Debbie Tucker Green's Hang and Standing at the Sky's Edge which has music from Richard Hawley.
