New Shakespeare's Globe winter season features shows from Robert Hastie and Paulette Randall

Shakespeare's Globe has announced the new winter season at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse between 2018 and 2019.

Robert Hastie, artistic director of Sheffield Theatres, will direct Macbeth to open the season, running the show from 14 November, with previews from 7 November, until 2 February. Paulette Randall will direct Doctor Faustus, which will play alongside Macbeth from 6 December, with previews from 1 December.

Dark Night of the Soul is a feminine response to the Faustian bargain and opens on 29 December. Jude Christian directs a series of writers including Lily Bevan, Athena Stevens, Katie Hims, Amanda Wilkin, Lisa Hammond and Rachael Spence. The writers have responded to the provocation "what would you sell your soul for?". The piece runs between 29 December and 2 February.

Oliver Chris will edit and dramatise Ralegh: The Treason Trial, which will premiere at Winchester Great Hall, the location of the original trial 415 years ago, before arriving at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse. The piece is a verbatim account of the trial compiled from sources directly present at the event. It opens on 15 November in Winchester and runs 24 to 30 November at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse.

Marlowe's Edward II and Shakespeare's Richard II will continue the season, with Edward II playing from 7 February. Richard II runs from 22 February and until 21 April. On 21 March After Edward opens, written by Tom Stuart in response to Marlowe's original play.
