Boundless Theatre and Tamasha has revealed details for Mohamed-Zain Dada’s Blue Mist on a national tour this summer, with performances running from 17 June to 30 July.

Originally staged at the Royal Court Upstairs in 2023, the play returns following an Olivier Award nomination for Outstanding Achievement in Affiliate Theatre and an Asian Media Award win for Best Stage Production.

Written by Dada and directed by Milli Bhatia, Blue Mist explores the experiences of young South Asian Muslim men, set in Chunkyz Shisha Lounge. You can read our review here.

The production will feature Omar Bynon returning to the role of Jihad after appearing in the original Royal Court production. He is joined by Azan Ahmed as Rashid and Kashif Ghole as Asif. Sanjeev Bhaskar will provide the voice of Chunky, owner of the lounge where the story takes place.

Dada said: “Blue Mist is a story about young Muslim men carving out joy and identity. It’s about the spaces that hold us together and the laughter that comes from everyday moments in our communities. From the dramas at Jummah, to fillet-o-fish, to the absurdities of gym culture. But it’s also about how the media willfully misrepresents us, distorts our humanity and makes us out to be monsters. Blue Mist questions how we might confront these narratives and the people in power who perpetuate them.”

Alongside the tour, which visits Leeds, Peterborough, London, Birmingham and Leicester, Boundless Theatre will work with participating venues to recruit and train six young people as Community Producers. The programme will support the development of free local events inspired by Blue Mist, including workshops, open mic nights and art fairs with a focus on South Asian and Muslim artists and audiences.

Boundless Theatre, based in Croydon, works with young people aged 15 to 25 through projects including Accelerator, which supports early-career creatives, as well as the Boundless Drama Club and The Box programme.

Tamasha continues its work supporting Global Majority artists and developing new work through long-term artistic collaborations.
