The theatre has announced a series of new and returning productions
The National Theatre have announced a series of brand new productions over the coming months, including a new piece on President Donald Trump's cabinet.
Directed by Nicholas Kent, All the President's Men? is a verbatim piece which will be made up of scenes from the Senate's fight over the President's cabinet. The piece shares its name with the 1974 book about two journalists investigating the Watergate scandal. Presented by the National and The Public Theater, New York, it will run for one night only on 24 April at the Vaudeville Theatre.
JT Rogers' new play Oslo will run in the Lyttleton from 5 September. The play tells the story of two Norwegian diplomats who coordinated top-secret talks which led to the Oslo Peace Accords. The Lincoln Center Theater's production will transfer direct from Broadway, and continue at the Harold Pinter Theatre after a three-week run at the National.
Sally Cookson's production of Jane Eyre will return to the National after a nationwide tour. A co-production with Bristol Old Vic, it originally opened in the Lyttleton in 2015 and is touring the UK until 8 April. The production received five-star reviews when it opened, including one from WhatsOnStage's Matt Trueman, who said it was a "thrilling and utterly theatrical adaptation". It runs from 26 September.
The National have announced they are partnering with Pride in London for Queer Theatre, a collection of rehearsed readings, exhibitions, talks and screenings. It marks 50 years since the partial decriminalisation of homosexuality in England and Wales. To celebrate Pride weekend (6 and 10 July), the theatre will will bring seminal queer plays to the theatre. Directors announced include Tarell Alvin McCraney, Stephen Daldry and Polly Stenham.
River Stage, the NT's free outdoor festival, will return this summer. It will feature live music, DJs, dance and theatre with the theatre's partners from across the country taking over each weekend from 28 July to 28 August. These include The Glory (28 to 30 July), HOME Manchester (4 to 6 August), WOMAD (11 to 13 August, Rambert (18 to 20 August) and the National (25 to 28 August).
Olivia Williams will join Olivia Colman in Lucy Kirkwood's new play Mosquitoes, which is about two sisters thrown together by tragedy. It opens on 25 July, with previews form 18 July. It runs alongside Rob Drummond's new play The Majority, which opens in the Dorfman on 14 August, with previews from 11 August.
