Musical of The Circle in the works?

A new musical production of Dave Eggers’ novel could arrive in London, WhatsOnStage has learnt.

In an interview with WhatsOnStage, director Michael Boyd said: "I’m working at the National on a musical, based on a Dave Eggers novel, The Circle.

"It’s early days, Matilda the Musical took seven years to develop so God knows when and if The Circle will reach a stage, but it is good fun."

Dave Eggers’ cult 2013 novel is set in a dystopian society where people are increasingly governed by what they do on the internet. It follows a woman who works at a major internet company run by a secretive trio of people, and whose life begins to fall apart.

Boyd added: "It’s good and it’s on the button and it tells the story in a very Dave way which is incredibly clearly, boldly and accessibly."

A film of The Circle starring Emma Watson, Tom Hanks and John Boyega is due in cinemas soon.
