”Funny Girl” director Michael Mayer will helm the project
A musical film based on the life of Pharrell Williams is reportedly in the works, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The project, titled Atlantis, is said to be a Romeo and Juliet-style story with songs based on Williams' childhood in Virginia.
Funny Girl director Michael Mayer is working on the project, which was picked up by Fox, and will be written by Martin Hynes. Mayer won a Tony Award in 2007 for the Broadway show Spring Awakening.
Williams' biggest songs include the 2013 hit "Happy", and he has also produced music for the likes of Beyonce, Ed Sheeran and Jennifer Hudson. There has been no word on whether the musical will feature original music, or tracks from the singer's back catalogue.
Williams has also dabbled in film before, producing last year's Oscar-nominated film Hidden Figures, and has written songs for the Despicable Me films.
