Local writers support The Christie with The C Project at The Lowry, 9 – 10 May

The Lowry is known for staging big musicals and plays in their Lyric theatre alongside more intimate productions in their Quays space. They also have a studio which showcases touring productions and local talent.

And it's this venue that is the home to The C Project which is running for two nights next month. The C stands for cancer – a topic people rarely talk about. Laura Linney's hit TV show The Big C proved that you could make an entertaining, funny and moving piece based around peoples' reactions and the care that you receive.

The project features new writing by some of Manchester’s many playwrights, with one common aim – to raise money for specialist cancer centre The Christie.

The night is hosted by comedy duo Saints of Humour, and features brand new short plays written especially for the event. Regulars at 24:7 Theatre Festival may recognise many of the writers involved.

They include: Sarah McDonald Hughes (Once in a House on Fire), Chris Hoyle (Tinned Up), Ian Townsend (All The Bens), Francesca Waite (Stars Are Fire), Rob Ward (Away From Home), Rebekah Harrison (Behind Closed Doors), James Leach (My Arms) and Jo Kirtley-Pritchard (Loaded).

Tickets are £12 and the event runs for two nights at the Lowry, Salford from 9 – 10 May.
