Kit Harington and Johnny Flynn to return to West End in Sam Shepard's True West

Kit Harington and Johnny Flynn will both return to the West End this winter in a new production of Sam Shepard's True West.

Shepard's play, which follows two battling brothers with differing outlooks in the Old West, will be directed by Matthew Dunster (who previously directed Flynn in the Royal Court production of Martin McDonagh's Hangmen) and opens at the Vaudeville Theatre in November for a limited season until February.

The production marks Harington's return to the West End after his turn in Doctor Faustus, directed by Jamie Lloyd. His previous stage credits include Posh and War Horse. Flynn previously appeared in the 2010 Globe production of Richard III and Twelfth Night alongside Mark Rylance and Stephen Fry, which transferred to Broadway.

Further casting and the creative team for the four-hander is to be announced. The play was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1983, and was last seen in London at the Tricycle Theatre in London in 2014, in a co-production with the Citizen's Theatre, Glasgow.

Dunster said: "There is something dangerous about True West. It's always unsettled me. I was always scared of reading it. Fearful of its burning content but also of its brilliance. When Sam Shepard died I went back to it and I knew I had to find way of doing it. And I have questions about the play: Is it about two brothers, or is it about how we all grapple with two sides of ourselves, thought by thought, dream by dream?"
