Mike Bartlett's future historical drama King Charles III has extended its run for an additional 9 weeks to 31 January 2015, due to "unprecedented demand".

The show opened last week to critical acclaim, and depicts the ascension of Prince Charles to the throne following the death of the Queen.

Tim Pigott-Smith will continue playing the role of Charles, but no other information has been given at this stage about other cast members.

Directed by the Almeida Theatre artistic director Rupert Goold, King Charles III is designed by Tom Scutt, with music by Jocelyn Pook, lighting by Jon Clark and sound by Paul Arditti.

Tickets for the extension are on sale now.
